The momentum has a feverish pitch as we get close to the start of Season 9. As a result there’s a lot of rumors, leaks and press info coming out and weaving through all of it is an interesting task. In general most rumors should be taken with a grain of salt.
Colin Baker and Peter Davison both have some action going on and Titan Comics has released an epic Doctor Who event.
SEASON 9 NEWS
Press screening for the first two episodes have occurred in Britain and the response has been positive. Again there is a tight lid on what exactly happens but early accounts indicate that Michelle Gomez is amazing in them. Missy and the Doctor are sort of on the same team in this one, (in a similar way that the Delgado Master and 3rd Doctor ‘helped’ each other). But for The master/Missy, old habits die hard.
BBC America has released pictures form the season opener. As you can see Kate Stewart appears in it.
Early indications are that Series 9 will have a different tone than the previous season with Capaldi’s Doctor being stalked by something or someone.
There’s also a lot of Gallifrey mumbo jumbo as well.
The Doctor’s Meditation is a prequel for The Magician’s Apprentice which will be shown at the Dark Water/Death In Heaven 3D cinema screenings on September 15-16.
The prequel also stars Daniel Hoffmann-Gill as Bors, a Viking.
That chalice looks similar to the one Paul McGann used in Night of the Doctor. Hmmm…
BBC America has confirmed that it will air The Magician’s Apprentice at 9 p.m. EST on September 19.
Episode Nine will feature a found footage format with this ‘footage;’ forming the basis of the story.
Episode Eleven features only Peter Capaldi. There is no Clara or guest stars in the story.
Episode Seven and Eight are said to be titled Invasion of The Zygons and Inversion of the Zygons respectively. Osgood appears in these episodes.
Peter Capaldi and Stephen Moffat discussed Maisie Williams role in the new Season in a video interview with BBC America.
Peter Capaldi is drawing high praise from extras working on the set.

THE RETURN OF RIVER SONG
BBC America has confirmed that Alex Kingston is returning to the series for the 2015 Christmas Special.
From the BBC America press release:
Alex Kingston returns to Cardiff to reclaim her role as Professor River Song for the highly anticipated 2015 Doctor Who Christmas special, premiering on Christmas Day on BBC AMERICA.
It’s Christmas Day in the future and the TARDIS is parked on a snowy village street, covered in icicles, awaiting its next adventure. Time traveller River Song meets her husband’s new incarnation, in the form of Peter Capaldi, for the first time this Christmas.
Day one of filming the eleventh Doctor Who Christmas special starts this week and is written by lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, produced by Nikki Wilson and directed by Douglas Mackinnon (Doctor Who, Sherlock). River Song made her first Doctor Who appearance in 2008 in Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead and has appeared in 15 episodes to date.
Award-winning Alex Kingston comments on her reappearance:
“To be honest, I did not know whether River would ever return to the show, but here she is, back with the Doctor for the Christmas special. Steven Moffat is on glittering form, giving us an episode filled with humor and surprise guest castings. I met Peter for the first time at Monday’s read-through, we had a laugh, and I am now excited and ready to start filming with him and the Doctor Who team. Christmas in September?, why not!”
Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer adds:
“Another Christmas, another special for Doctor Who – and what could be more special than the return of Alex Kingston as Professor River Song. The last time the Doctor saw her she was a ghost. The first time he met her, she died. So how can he be seeing her again? As ever, with the most complicated relationship in the universe, it’s a matter of time …”
The witty line-up of guest cast joining Alex for a magical adventure on the TARDIS will be announced over the coming months.
